Prostate Cancer Awareness

Brother Mike F. Jones (left) and our Senior Deacon Brother Warren Angerstein (right)

At our April Stated Meeting we were very pleased to have been visited by Brother Mike F. Jones. He presented information and models during his lecture regarding the dangers of prostate cancer, how early identification and treatment can save your life, and told us about his support group "Us TOO."

Brother Jones, a prostate cancer survivor, is the chapter leader for the Austin Chapter for US TOO, and is currently responsible for that organization's eduction training in the State of Texas. He has made prostate cancer awareness his personal Masonic Work and he delivers that message with humor and stories of survival. He also pointed out that prostate cancer, while far more prevalent than breast cancer and right behind lung cancer as the top killers of men, receives far less government research money than breast cancer research. Much like the pink ribbon worn to demonstrate awareness for breast cancer, prostate cancer awareness has a blue ribbon that one can wear on their lapel.

Traveling Brothers are reading about our lodge...

Since publishing this website we have had two traveling brethren visit our lodge and state they found out about our meetings and location from the website. We receive a great number of hits due to our Grand Lodge's website, which is great! All traveling brethren are welcome and encouraged to visit with us, even if it is one of our practice nights!
